hope activated: Programs
HOPE ACTIVATED is determined to be a positive influence in the lives of our young people, which will bolster the overall quality of the community. Here are some of the programs currently serving as our foundation.
Young Fathers Program
Hope Activated’s Young Fathers Program is designed to mentor young fathers (16-25 years of age) to help them to effectively navigate fatherhood as a teen and young adult, build healthy and lasting relationships with their children, become employed, financially self-sufficient, and become strong pillars in their communities. The program also includes job readiness training and placement, money management training, parent education and co-parenting counseling. Participants are encouraged to actively nurture and financially support their children.
Young Mothers Program
Hope Activated’s Young Mothers Program is designed to mentor young mothers (16-25 years of age) to help them to successfully navigate motherhood as a teen and young adult, support the healthy development of both mothers and infants, receive access to prenatal and postnatal care as well as individual and group therapy and access to pediatric care, and nutritional oversight. The program also includes job readiness training and placement, money management training, parent education and co-parenting counseling. Participants will ultimately gain life and parenting skills that will help them nurture and support their children.
Pathway to License & Consequences
Our after school programs are designed to inspire and educate. They offer a variety of enriching activities that cater to the interests and talents of young people. From arts and crafts to sports and academic support, our programs stimulate creativity and encourage personal development. We ensure that each participant has the opportunity to explore new interests in a safe and encouraging environment. With experienced facilitators, we nurture talents that could very well turn into lifelong passions.
Building Financial Foundations for Youth and Young Adults
Hope Activated is committed to educating youth and young adults on finance and decisions that impact their financial well-being. As Shelby County Tennessee continues to trend upward in poverty per capita for the state, Hope Activated seeks to change that narrative and help build a demographic of informed and financially stable individuals with a mindset to establish wealth and security for their families.
Participants learn how to come up with strategies to pay for college that requires setting career goals, making a budget, figuring educational ROI (return on investment), and investigating various funding sources (grant agencies, scholarship foundations, work-study, etc.). This topic is relevant for every personal finance class for high school attendees and college students.
We also inform on moving into an independent living situation depends upon having the ability to support oneself, set financial objectives, budget for expenses, obtain insurance policies, and manage credit.
Lastly, we educate on buying a vehicle for transportation that draws upon such skills as negotiating with a car dealer or private party, selecting insurance coverage, fitting the purchase into a budget, and uncovering all the expenses involved, such as regular auto maintenance and fuel costs.
Fueling Entrepreneurship
We have noticed and become sensitive to the rise of the entrepreneur mindset that is prevalent in our young men and young women during this time. We want to keep that fire burning, but with proper guidance and direction. In this program the mentees mindset will be fortified by being taught by successful entrepreneurs who have gone the way and persevered through the highs and lows of business ownership.
Broadening Perspectives through Youth Community Gun Violence
Our Gun Violence Program is broken down into two parts. We believe that it is very important to educate our young men and young women about the state and federal gun laws so they will be aware of the consequences and their rights. This is covered under the “Consequences” portion of the program.
The other part of the program focuses on “Who is Affected” by gun violence. We believe that there is a compassionate part within every human being. If we can help our young men and young women consider the negative effect that gun violence has on families, then maybe that would be a deterrent to the resorting to gun violence to settle their disputes.
